FEASIBILITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF RETROSIGMOID APPROACH IN VESTIBULAR SCHWANNOMA SURGERYPurpose: To assess the feasibility and effectiveness of lateral suboccipital retrosigmoid approach in surgical management vestibular schwannoma.Materials Methods: We conducted a prospective hospital-based case series on 356 patients during period from May 2018 to 2020 collaboration with neurosurgery department, Sohag University hospital, Tokyo Medical Hospital. Patients included who were undergoing intervention for schwannoma (VS) through approach. All our study followed up minimum four months. For each patient intraoperative tumor resection volume was recorded, postoperative complications, facial cochlear nerve functions assessed. Results: Enrolled this cases, majority (54.8%) females; while (45.2%) males mean age (42.57 ± 12.3) years. achieved follow-up 6.2 months; ranging (4-9 months). Postoperative scoring function good outcome 79.4%, fair 17.5%, poor 3.1%.Conclusion: assessed results surgery using VS. Surgical VS is safe effective but after advancement microsurgical techniques like drilling neurophysiological monitoring especially seventh eighth cranial nerves, possibility preserving became more feasible excellent results.

Hearing preservation and facial nerve outcomes in vestibular schwannoma surgery: total removal using the retrosigmoid approach
Background: The present study aims to report the results and the prognostic and technical factors for hearing preservation during removal of vestibular schwannoma by a retrosigmoid approach. Methods: this was a retrospective study conducting on the 286 vestibular showannomas removal surgeries using retrosigmoid approach during October 2007 to 2011.Preoperative and postoperative clinical, audiom...
متن کاملFeasibility of the Ultrasonic Bone Aspirator in Retrosigmoid Vestibular Schwannoma Removal.
OBJECTIVE Postoperative headache is an undesirable consequence of retrosigmoid vestibular schwannoma (VS) removal. An ultrasonic bone aspirator (UBA) may reduce headache by minimizing subarachnoid bone dust dispersion. The feasibility of removing internal auditory canal (IAC) bone with a UBA is unknown. This study assessed volume and duration of IAC bone removal in clinical and laboratory setti...
متن کاملLong-Term Hearing Outcome After Retrosigmoid Removal of Vestibular Schwannoma
Although many investigators have reported the hearing function in the immediate postoperative period in patients with vestibular schwannoma (VS), little is known about the long-term outcomes of the postoperative hearing. The aim of this study was to analyze the long-term hearing outcomes at a mean follow-up of 5 years in patients with unilateral VS treated via the retrosigmoid approach. Twenty-...
متن کاملAnalysis of hearing preservation and facial nerve function for patients undergoing vestibular schwannoma surgery: the middle cranial fossa approach versus the retrosigmoid approach--personal experience and literature review.
OBJECTIVE To compare hearing preservation and facial nerve function outcomes in patients undergoing vestibular schwannoma surgery performed using either the middle cranial fossa approach (MCFA) or the retrosigmoid approach (RSA). MATERIALS AND METHODS A review of the medical records of patients diagnosed with vestibular schwannoma who underwent surgical tumor removal in a single reference cen...
متن کاملFacial Nerve Outcome after Vestibular Schwannoma Resection: A Comparative Meta-Analysis of Endoscopic versus Open Retrosigmoid Approach.
The minimal access retrosigmoid endoscopic approach to vestibular schwannoma (VS) resection has been used with promising results. However, it has not been compared with the standard open approach in the literature. We performed a meta-analysis review for all articles describing both approaches for VS from 1996 to 2011. We found 1861 articles. After review and discussion, we narrowed our study t...
